This award celebrates a deep commitment to making sourdough bread baking accessible to everyone, from beginners to experienced sourdough bread bakers.
It’s likely that we would have won the gap year also, if I hadn’t missed the email in my box. (Dang! Such can happen when life gets a bit busy.)
Since winning the first time, we’ve added ‘Old Frisco‘ to our sourdough starter kits, an honest starter culture that was imported for it’s unique, symbiotic culture of Lactobacillus sanfranciscensis bacteria and wild yeast, which thrive in the city’s cool, foggy climate. This pairing produces a distinctively mild-to-moderate tang, a chewy, open crumb, and a crisp, blistered crust, historically preserved since the 1849 Gold Rush and famously heralded as the ‘original’ sour dough.
We’ve also added our wildly popular ‘Ancient Kneads‘ – our unique 100% spelt sourdough starter kit that makes a loaf of sourdough that will rival any white bread on the market, including sourdough itself!
